Firework Volunteer Safety Training
Rise 360 safety training featuring an interactive Storyline block. Developed for The eLearning Designer’s Academy July 2024 challenge.
Responsibilities: Instructional Design, eLearning Development, Graphic Design, Project Management
Tools Used: Articulate Rise and Storyline 360, Canva, Google Docs, Autodesk SketchBook
The Challenge
The Village of Preskitt is hosting a Fourth of July festival with a large fireworks display. Several of the new volunteers do not have experience with display-grade fireworks, which can cause serious injury or death when used improperly.
The challenge was to create an e-learning training module to teach volunteers critical safety information. The course must also include the resources, assets, and branding guidelines provided by the client.
Features
Smooth Transitions in Rise
I took some inspiration from bylittle Learning's Rise examples to make creative transitions between blocks using images created in Canva. For example, I framed one section of content as a newspaper heading, then used a color gradient image to smoothly transition into the next block.
The secret? Using labeled graphic blocks for the transition images to keep the image from resizing!
Fire Extinguisher Storyline Block
One key learning objective was to use a fire extinguisher using the PASS method. Instead of showing the steps with a process or flashcard, I created a Storyline block to simulate the steps of the PASS method.
The user must Pull, Aim, Squeeze, and Sweep with the mouse to put out the fire. Compared to just reading about the steps, performing the actions in a virtual setting will aid knowledge transfer when performing the steps in real life. I used a variety of dials, sliders, hotspots, and animations to create these interactions.
